What if...you would allow yourself to wonder and find your own storyline?
A neuroscience view upon storyboarding and storytelling and the connection between them
What is the connection between storytelling, storyboarding, and the neuroscience behind it?
This post will relate the visualization through storyboarding with an experiment I challenged you to, storytelling and neuroscience.
Why? Because in my head there is a connection that came through and I wanted to share it with you :)
What is the neuroscience behind storytelling and storyboarding?
After using storyboarding, especially in product features workshops (most of them design sprints) and storytelling in sharing the story behind the storyboarding but also in workshops and training where I used Playmobil Pro, one of the things that connect them is the own perception.
What I like to use when creating a storyboard, is to add the “What if…” question to it. Like a question that needs an answer and sparkles creativity in its own way. The “What if” question invites the imagination into a story we want to explore, a key that unlocks a door, engaging the dream part of your brain.
And in this post, I want to bring awareness about how powerful visualization is and the fact that we create our own reality through our own perception.
We receive information from the outside world and in our brains, the information gets filtered through our own perception and own state of mind and we create then our own reality and behavior as a response to this.
Here is a video that explains how your brain hallucinates your conscious reality. The main takeaways are between minutes 3:40 and 7:20 but, of course, if you have the time the whole talk is very interesting:
One-phrase summary:
Storyboarding and the storytelling around it help us visualize what our brain created as our own reality. And we all create our own reality through our perceptions. If we add to this the strong “What if..” question, this will help us open the imagination door and let our brains wonder about finding the right path.
