The Brain's Safety Mechanism - One Question That We Put Ourselves On Repeat Every Day
Understanding Our Brain Primary Organizing Principle
What is the ONE question that we put ourselves on repeat every day many times?
Is this safe for me?
The one question we ask ourselves all day long is “Is it safe for me?”. We get info from the outside world, events, senses, and so on and we filter it through our own perception, forming our own reality.
When we encounter something we perceive as not safe, we consider it as a threat, we have an “away” response to it. Fear and stress are arriving in our state of mind.
As the threat increases, the cognitive capacity decreases. Studies are saying it decreases by 75% so it is quite hard to still be able to take decisions, come up with ideas, and solutions, or create anything in this state.
If the answer to the “Am I safe?” question is yes, our brain generates a reward, towards reaction. A safety context is created for our state of mind where creativity is welcomed and sharing your opinions feels natural.
Bottom lines:
Take into consideration the question about safety that runs through your mind all the time but also in other’s people minds. Think about how your actions can influence other people’s answer to this question “Am I safe?”. For me, it was a big AHA moment to realize this and it changed my perception of people's reactions to different situations.
I am fascinated by the “why” behind collaboration, I participated in a lot of training, became NeuroMindfulness Coach, and applied the know-how in many sessions. It is the time I would like to share with you as well this!
